Orlistat Brands and Price in Pakistan
Orlistat is widely registered in Pakistan: DRAP's register shows 60 orlistat entries, not counting export registrations, including Xenical, registered to Martin Dow in 2006.
DRAP shows Xenical's price as de-controlled, so there is no approved figure to quote, and pharmacy prices may differ. DRAP's record for Xenical also says to store the capsules below 30°C, which matters in a Lahore summer.

How Orlistat Works
Orlistat blocks the gut enzymes that digest fat, so part of the fat in a meal passes through unabsorbed.
Lipase Inhibition
Orlistat binds to pancreatic and gastric lipase enzymes in the small intestine. They can then no longer break down fat from food.
Fat Excreted Unabsorbed
Blocked dietary fat passes through the digestive system and is excreted, which directly cuts the calories taken in from fat.
Clinical trials show an average weight loss of 5 to 7% of body weight over one year when orlistat is combined with a low-fat diet.
Taking Orlistat: Doses and Diet
Orlistat is taken three times a day with meals, and it works better, with fewer side effects, when fat stays below 30% of daily calories.
Dr. Rizwan gives dietary guidance alongside the prescription. Because orlistat reduces the absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, a daily multivitamin taken at bedtime is recommended during treatment.
Orlistat Side Effects and Who Should Avoid It
The commonest side effects are oily stools, bowel urgency and oily spotting, and they come mostly from fatty meals.
Orlistat is not suitable in pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for patients with malabsorption syndrome or cholestasis, or those taking cyclosporine. It has been in clinical use since 1998, and it does not affect heart rate or blood pressure.
